This site documents moto-worthy roads within a 150 mile radius of Pittsburgh. This includes the tri-state region of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia. The roads in each state have their own personality as described below.

I have given each road an overall rating. I'm a SPORT-touring rider, so twisty roads rate highly with me. If it's not twisty, it should be scenic. And I HATE traffic. The more remote the better. Truth be told, there are sections of these roads that are very good, not the entire road, so be sure to read the descriptions to find out where the good bits are.

PA offers many miles of scenic sweepers on meandering country highways. Unfortunately, PA is also known for poor pavement quality. Speed limits are lower, passing zones are fewer, and the "sharp corner" warning signs are more conservative than in WV or OH. Most sport riders head to West Virginia or Ohio to get a lean on.

WV is known for its mountains. The roads that cross the mountains can be very technical as they switchback up one side and down the other. Some even come with passing lanes!

You can also expect some very mellow sections of road when it runs along the valleys between the ridges. WV is known for taking good care of its roads, but beware of gravel on the steeper grades.

Speed limits tend to be reasonable, with many sections of twisty two-lane marked 55 MPH. Passing zones are more frequent, although sometimes very short. The "sharp corner" warning signs are fairly consistent. Take it easy on the twisty bits until you get a feel for the roads and how they are marked.

OH is rolling farm land with smaller elevation changes than WV. The fun roads in Ohio have a roller-coaster feel to them as they twist and wind around hills and farms. Ohio also takes pretty good care of its roads, but expect more gravel in the turns (generally piled in the middle of the lane). Speed limits are reasonable with many fun roads having a 55 MPH speed limit. Be warned, the rolling nature of the terrain makes for many blind hills. Surprises abound, which is part of the fun and challenge.
