Roads are given an overall rating as well as being classified according to road type and pavement quality.

Five stars means this road is a MUST DO; one of the best in the region |

Four stars means the road is worth going out of your way for |
| |
Three stars indicates a nice enough road, typical of the bike-worthy roads in the region |

Two stars indicates a below average road, usually due to fair pavement or traffic. |

One star indicates a poor road that is probably best avoided due to bad pavement or traffic. |

| Twisties |
Roads with numerous "sharp corner" warning signs, many with speeds 25 MPH or slower |
| Sweepers |
Roads with lots of turns, but lacking the "sharp corner" content of Twisties |
| Cruiser |
Scenic two-lane roads with long straights and mellow curves |
| Highway |
Usually four-lane roads, or heavily travelled, mostly straight, two-lane roads. |
